At Watt Watchers of Texas, we have been invested in the prosperity of Texas and the conservation of Texas’ energy resources since 1985.
As a state-sponsored STEM program designed to boost energy literacy in schools (grades K-12), we feel it is our responsibility and privilege to provide schools like yours with the information, lessons, activities, and other resources needed to implement an energy savings plan. If you are interested in helping your school save energy and money, you may be wondering where to get started.
There are two critical steps to get started in the energy conservation effort at your school, and you are in the right place to get the information you need. One of these two steps is developing an energy savings plan that can be implemented throughout the school. Everyone can do their part in helping to conserve energy and lower your monthly bills. Administrators can look into switching out the types of light bulbs being used in the school or upgrade the HVAC system. Teachers and students can do their part by turning off the lights and closing the doors in rooms that are not in use. Each member of the school should have a part to play in the energy savings plan.
The second part is introducing and participating in the student patrol program. Students are the largest number of people in the school, so it is vital that you can get as many of them as possible to participate in the energy conservation effort. With the Student Patrol Program, you can give students a sense of responsibility and authority at school, and you will be able to show them that their efforts have demonstrable results.
At Watt Watchers of Texas, the Student Patrol Program truly is the heart of our efforts, and we are dedicated to helping every school that chooses to participate be successful. Your students will join Lil’ Tex and Ann in their efforts to save Texas by rounding up the members of the Waster Gang. By participating in the patrol, students learn about responsibilities and the benefits of adhering to the program. They are able to lead by example and get to see how their work pays off in the long run.
The Student Patrol Program is also fun! Students get to hand out tickets to their fellow students and even teachers when they find an energy violation. They also get badges and can earn awards and certificates of achievement for a job well done. The interactive nature of the program helps keep students interested while also learning lessons that have direct, real-world implications and effects. With the lessons and activities available online through Watt Watchers of Texas, teachers can educate students about energy conservation, benefit the school, and show students that saving energy is fun and easy.
